Results

Soda maintains slim lead to defeat Corn

In near perfect weather, Soda, led by Dave "Jack" Nicholson (tied for GOTY) and Gary "Snuffy" Shaw (3rd place GOTY), took a 2 point lead after the 1st day of cup matches, and held on to this margin the next 2 days to win the Cup, 16 - 14.  GOTY went to Bill "$ Bill" Loos, who returned to C&S Cup matches after a 20 year hiatus.  Bill's return brought back memories for those who played in cup matches back in the 80s and 90s, and many new memories were made at this years event.  The 4-man scramble championship went to Brian "Algae" Algeier, Roy "TanMan" Tanner, Jerry "Tarzan" Jungels, and non-participant Pete "Sticks" Stracke with a 10 under 62 posting, netting 30 stableford points.  Sticks and Karl "Schnak" Schnakenburg rode their pro horse, Adam "I'll never give up my long putter" Scott to win the Partner with a Pro contest while Algae and TanMan tied for 3rd place.  Long drive was won by Brian "Ice Tea" Jackson who also got closest to the pin honors.  Rick "Wingman" Wing had a typical rookie performance and was the Big Duffer.  John "Geese" Geiselmann earned his "Best Roomate Ever" award while Tarzan took down the 2 Buck award as well as the "Worst Roomate Ever" award.

Overview

Defying Horace Greeley - Head'n east to Ft. Lauderdale

After 5 years of being west of the Missisippi River, executive committee member Eric Olson said "It was time to get back to our roots and play some Florida golf.  Having played many times in the state including Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and St. Lucia, there were still many destinations in the state we had not yet explored."

In just his 1st year as mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Dean Trantalis exceded his cities expectations by landing the venerable Corn and Soda golf tournament for 2019.  Dean commented that "The honor of being selected as the host city for the 35th annual event adds an incalculable prestige not only to our fine city but to the whole of South Florida ”  He went on to say, “Yes, Fort Lauderdale is home to many top rate golfing venues, but we also have great beaches and a night life with South Beach so close by that's second to none".  The Corn and Soda contestants will be staying right on the Atlantic Ocean beach at  the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort..
