Corn & Soda

Current Tournament Format

Two (2) person teams play opponents for 9 holes in a Better Ball (or what some call Best Ball) match play format.  The teams are then changed for the next 9 holes playing under the same format. The Better Ball of partners format is played on the 2nd and 3rd days of the tournament. (Prior to 2017, the second day was a two man scramble but thereafter both days are now better ball matches)

On the 4th day, (1) person plays an opponent for 9 holes in match play.  They then play another opponent for the next 9 holes under the same format.

The Corn & Soda invitational golf tournament is actually 2 events.  One of these events is a modified Ryder Cup format where members from each team play each other in the following matches:

All of the above matches are scored using player handicaps.  Match handicaps are determined by subtracting the lowest handicap of the players in the match from each players handicap and dividing by 2 (to account for it being a nine hole match). Fractional results apply so if a player gets 5 strokes for 18 holes then they get 2.5 strokes in the 9-hole match.  The full handicap strokes are each applied to the hardest holes with the fractional strokes applying to the next hardest hole. Opponents are always from the other team (Corn always plays against Soda).

The other event that is not part of the Ryder Cup format is a 4-man team scramble championship usually played from the "blue" or "black" tees.  This is scored without handicaps using a modified Stableford system.  Teams can be composed of both Corn and Soda members. Prior to 2017, a practice round was held on the first day of arrival but thereafter the practice round was abandoned and players compete in the 4-man team scramble on the first day. Prior to 2017, this event was held as 2 9-hole rounds (front and back 9) on the 2nd and 3rd days after 18 holes of the 2 man team Ryder Cup matches were completed.

Points are awarded depending on the outcome of all events, and they are totaled up both by team and by individual.
