Synopsis
Although short on drama, this years C&S Cup featured outstanding accommodations and hospitality, and was extremely fortunate to play all scheduled rounds. Perhaps and early Soda omen arrived Thursday morning on the 1st tee of the 2 man scramble matches when the team of Kazmerski and Gieselmann each were forced to hit a sleeve of balls and upon leaving the tee, Kazmerski was hit by bird droppings. This match began a record streak of 9 consecutive matches with a win or tie for Corn. After a 7 year absence, Loos’s return to the Cup was one of the few Soda bright spots. Loos rolled in a 65 footer on the 2nd hole Thursday morning against Brown and Kniola on the way to a 7 hole stretch of 3 under par which paved the way to a Soda victory. On Saturday, Loos continued to beat up on long time rivals with a single’s victory over Bootcheck. In the Scramble Championship, all 3 teams were tied entering the 16th hole. Loos’s team fell off the pace with a watery bogey on 16 and Bottcheck’s team birdied 18 to force a playoff with front runner Fusco. For the 2nd consecutive year, Bootcheck’s team lost on the 1st playoff hole as Fusco’s team made a solid birdie. Although the weather forecast throughout the event called for rain, al of it arrived after the day matches were played. 60 miles away, the PGA Honda Classic was rained out but storms did not reach us until 7 pm. Saturday saw low temperatures with a high of 60 degrees. For the 2nd year in a row, Corn routed Soda.
