Synopsis

The 14th annual event featured a new era of competition as the C&S Cup and Scramble Championship teams were determined by a blind draw at the opening ceremonies.  The draw saw Fusco, Stracke, and Matthews playing for Soda for the 1st time and leading Soda to its 1st victory in 3 years by a score of 14 to 10.  Wind shirts, sweat shirts, long pants, hand warmers, and pullover caps became the story line as the competitors faced the coldest Cup weather since the initial 2 years at Pine Needles.  Rookie Fagan quickly became a story line as his clubs were left at the hotel before he played his 1st ever Cup round.  Soda dominated the competition winning the 1st day, 4.5 to 1.5 and the 2nd day, 4 to 2.  The Scramble Championship saw the team of Bootcheck, Brown, rookie Fagan, and Kazmerski win by overtaking Fusco’s team with a 2 stroke swing on the 14th hole, yet Fusco’s team was supreme in earnings with a to-date record of 14 skins.  The new format created new rivalries and regained the competitive edge that insures fairness and sportsmanship for all competitors.
