Corn routs Soda by 9 to retain the Cup

Total domination.  That was all that could be said about Corn's overwhelming victory.  After taking a 3-1 lead in the morning best ball matches on Thursday, they repeated the score in the afternoon and had a commanding 6 - 2 lead at days end.  Fridays morning best ball matches were bettered with a 4 - 0 victory that clearly identified the rout was on.  Soda took some salvage of the day by winning the afternoon matches 2.5 to 1.5 but at days end were down 7 points.  Needing only 5 points in Saturdays singles matches to retain the Cup, Corn, led by GOTY's Brian 'Iced Tea' Jackson and Gary 'Snuffy' Shaw, was able to garner 4.5 in the morning matches and repeated this in the afternoon matches to win the cup 20.5 to 11.5.  The 4-man scramble was also a total domination as the team of Tom 'Yanni' Kniola, Dan 'Kman' Kniola, Brain 'Algae' Allgaier, and Greg 'Otis' Daryl 2 stroke victory was enough to garner the front, back, and overall Nassau.

Duffer honors went to Jerry 'Tarzan' Jungels who pushed through shoulder pain the entire event.  Roy 'Tanman' Tanner brought home the Closest to the Pin award, Dave 'Jack' Nicholson took home the 2 buck award, and Brian 'I need my handicap lowered' Jackson took home the Longest Drive award.  Adding insult to injury, co-GOTY's Shaw and Jackson respectively garnered first and second place in the Partner with a Pro contest with Snuffy riding Marc Leishman to victory.  A five way tie for third place diluted the winnings but at least got these 5 their money back.

New Locale - San Diego Venue Set for May 2017

Breaking the $1K budget for golf and accommodations could only be done with the selection of a top class destination like San Diego.  With it's near perfect climate for all year round golf, it's a superb locale for hosting the annual C&S Tournament.

San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer, excited over the selection of his hometown as the venue for the 33rd annual Corn and Soda golf championship exclaimed, “This really provides the salve we needed after losing the Chargers to LA which was announced late last year.”  He went on to say, “The city of San Diego could not be more ecstatic over the C&S selection to come to our fine city on the Pacific to compete at 4 great courses that I'm certain will prove challenging for the competitors."  And of course, he could not help but getting in a dig at last years city selection, boasting "Our climate is second to none when it comes to all year round golf, and if the Corn and Soda EC ever decided to have a permanent location, San Diego is hands down a better choice than Scottsdale."   San Diego also has an excellent nightlife exemplified by the Gaslamp Quarter which is a walkable urban playground tucked tightly into 16 ½ blocks of downtown San Diego, The Catamaran Hotel Resort and Spa is located north of downtown San Diego with ocean and bay views.
