Corn holds onto 4 point lead to take the Cup

Heading out west seemed to suit everyone just fine as the perfect weather met everyone's expectations but ultimately it proved best for the Corn team.  After the Thursday morning scrambles matches at We-Ko-Pa ended up at 2 - 2, the Corn team, led by newbie Otis (the golfer formerly known as Gman), took a commanding 3 point lead in the afternoon matches that was never relinquished.  The following day saw Otis repeat his 2 - 0 tally as Corn extended their lead by a point in the best ball matches at Grayhawk finishing the day with a 10 - 6 result.  The final round individual matches at Troon North ended up with both teams posting 8 points, leaving Corn to take home the cup with an 18 to 14 outcome.  The day finally saw Otis losing a match but his 5 - 1 record is one of the better results for any newbie at the C&S.  Alas though, it was not enough to win the GOTY as Otis learned the tough lesson of partnering well in the 4 man scramble.  Seasoned veteran JJ knew this well and led his 4 man scramble team including Tarzan, Snuffy, and Desert Crapper (DC) to victory and coupled with his 3-2-1 record in the C&S matches, was able to edge out Otis and Snuffy by a single point to win the GOTY.  Although DC (golfer formerly known as JD) tied for the Big Duffer with 5 other players, his reliance on the 4 man scramble for most of his points made him a back-to-back winner as the ultimate Big Duffer. Sir Talks Alot took down the long drive and Algae took home the closest to the pin contests.  Kman and Snatch rode Matt 'Kooch' Kuchar to victory in the partner with a pro contest.

Overview

Return to 2012 Locale - Scottsdale Venue Set for May 2016

Unwilling to build an indoor golf course or a travelling Ark, the C&S executive committee agreed with player consensus to get out of the wet, and follow Horace Greeley's advice to 'head west' to drier climes.  Executive committee member Dan “K Man” Kniola explained that even though all the rounds last year except the practice round were completed, the inconvenience imposed by the forecast and torrential downpour on Sundays departure, made this years selection yet again another 'no brainer'.  Eric “E” Olson, heading into his sophmore year as the tournament logistics planner, further added, “I'm looking forward to playing in such a fantastic golfing area after having missed the 2012 event held here, and the courses are some of the finest in the entire region.”

Jim Lane, mayor of Scottsdale (known as The West's most western town) proclaimed, “The City of Scottsdale is thrilled to host the 32nd annual Corn and Soda golf championship in May.”  He went on to say, “We could not be more pleased that the C&S has decided to return to our region to compete at 4 of the finest venues we have to offer.  And of course, with a mean temperature in May of 78 degrees and only 0.14" of precipitation. we are hoping that C&S will consider our city as a permanent location."  In addition to having over 200 resort courses to play on, Scottsdale also has an excellent nightlife exemplified by its being named by The New York Times as one of the "hippest and most happening" places in the country, Scottsdale is home to a variety of high-end nightclubs, restaurants, hotels, lounges and bars.
