Corn comeback overtakes Soda 19 1/2 - 12 1/2

Participating in extreme heat reaching up to 108 deg F must have suited the Corn team well as they came back from being 2 down going into the final day of competition and leapt over Soda stretching the lead to 7 by the conclusion of the afternoon matches. Scott Anderson went from last years Duffer to this years Golfer of the Year (GOTY). Scott, a member of the Corn team, was the big money winner, helping to lead his 4-man scramble team to a 4-shot victory, and took home first place in the Partner with a Pro contest.  Tom Kniola earned his Big Duffer jacket and took it all in stride providing the contestants with a memorable speech recounting shot by shot how he came upon his new wardrobe attire at the Tournament Awards Dinner.

Overview

Palm Springs Venue Set for May 2014

With an average temperature of 95 deg F and 0.05" of rainfall for the month of May, Palm Springs is the perfect locale for hosting the 30th annual Corn & Soda tournament.  Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet, in office since 2007, exclaimed “We know this selection coud not have come about had it not been for the tireless efforts of our community going back to the term of mayor Sonny Bono.  It’s wonderful to be chosen as a host for such a prestigious event and we hope many of our notable residents will be in attendance.”  Executive Committee members were pleased with the golf venue, negotiated rates, and accommodations.  Dan Kniola summed it up by stating "It's a great tribute for us to be able to play in Bob Hope's former home city on our 3rd decade of competition.  We're all looking forward to the long awaited return to competition (12 years) of founding member Mike Brown and having a great time and tournament."
