Synopsis
For the 3rd time ever, the C&S Invitational returned to a previous venue, coming back to Lake Conroe to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Walden on Lake Conroe CC remained in the rotation while Blaketree National was the Day 1 course and Del Lago was the site of the practice round. The Woodlands TPC course was to host the final day; however, a strong thunder storm wiped out the day’s play for the 1st time in invitational history.
With no play on Saturday, the matches ended in a 6 to 6 tie. The Soda team consisted of Granger, Tom Nicholson, Tanner, Hone, Olson, and Dan Kniola. Team “Tanqueray Bay II” of Hone, Stracke, Oliger, and Tanner won the Scramble Championship and celebrated that evening in the very same bay. TB2 got off to a quick start on Thursday, posting 4 under compared to the other 2 teams who were at 1 under and held on Friday with 2 late birdies for a 2 stroke margin with a 6 under score. Hone was GOTY in the abbreviated event edging out Gieselmann who was the winner the previous 2 years.
This year’s “Partner with a Pro” contest was won by Gieselmann who had Kirk Triplett as his team mate from the HP Classic in New Orleans. Hone and Ogden moved slowly on Saturday after getting kicked out of the hot tub at about 4 am by the neighbor. Yanni (the real one) was missing from Houston this year. Countless games of GoLo golf were played with Tom Nicholson as the prime facilitator.
