Corn & Soda
Annual Invitational Golf Tournament
In it’s current format, and depending on the year, the Corn & Soda invitational golf tournament is a 12 or 16 person Ryder Cup type event. Participants and teams (Corn team and Soda team) are chosen by the C&S Executive Committee after an exhaustive review and analysis of past performance and current handicaps. Over the years more than 50 golfers have participated in this annual spring time tournament. Venues include top notch resorts like Doral in Miami, FL and The Boulders in Carefree, AZ. The locales vary year to year and only 5 locations have been returned to twice.
The inaugural event, held in 1985, had humble beginnings and was not yet named Corn & Soda. It started out as a 4 person bachelor party where 3 friends (Mike Brown, Paul Farrell, and Dave Bootcheck) “kidnapped” the groom-to-be (Bill Loos) under a pretense of taking him in for buying a stolen car. Surprised when he did not end up at the police station but instead found himself at Newark Liberty airport, Bill was even more stunned when he saw his golf clubs. They soon arrived at their destination - Pinehurst, NC - where they played numerous rounds at the Pine Needles Golf Club, and unbeknownst to them at the time, started a tradition that has stood the test of time.
